If sewage is coming up a basement drain, stop using water everywhere in the building, keep people and pets away from it, and don't run the washer or dishwasher. The main line is usually blocked. Cornerstone Plumbing in Milford clears main lines and camera-inspects them to find the cause: (508) 361-9450.
A washing machine drains a lot of water fast. If the main line is partly blocked by grease, wipes or tree roots, that surge can't get past and comes up the lowest drain, usually in the basement. It's an early warning of a main line clog. Cornerstone Plumbing clears the line and can camera-inspect it for the cause.
Heavy rain can raise water in the town sewer or soak into a cracked or separated sewer pipe, so the line fills and water comes back up the lowest drain. Roots that grow into cracked pipes make it worse. A camera inspection shows whether the pipe is damaged. Cornerstone Plumbing has a sewer camera and runs it through main lines.
Yes. Sewage carries bacteria and viruses, so wear rubber gloves, boots and eye protection, keep children and pets away, and air the space out. Wet drywall, carpet and other porous things usually have to go. For large backups, a water damage company can do the cleanup. Cornerstone Plumbing clears the line and finds what caused the backup.
Often not on its own. Many homeowners policies exclude sewer and drain backup unless you've added a separate backup endorsement, so check your policy and call your insurer early. Photograph everything before cleanup and keep the plumber's invoice showing the cause. Cornerstone Plumbing can document what was blocked and where for your claim.
